LOCATION: Outpatient, Hospital POSTOPERATIVE DIAGNOSIS: Scar of neck PROCEDURE PERFORMED: Dermabrasion of neck scar with revision of complex scar of neck (closure of complex wound) DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE: The patient’s neck was prepped with Betadine scrub and solution and draped in a routine sterile fashion. Dermabrasion was carried out with a hand engine, using one of the larger burs, and then we injected with 7 cc of 1% Xylocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine. The scar measured 14 cm (centimeter) in length by about 1.5 cm in width with a 1.5-cm Y-extension. The scar was dermabraded, as noted, and then excised. Bleeding was electrocoagulated, and the wound was closed with subcuticular 3-0 and 4-0 Monocryl and interrupted twists of 5-0 Prolene using one horizontal mattress suture of 5-0 Prolene in the Y-portion of the scar. Thymol iodide powder was applied with Kerlix fluffs and a soft cervical collar was applied. The patient tolerated the procedure well and left the operating room in good condition.
