Leandra is a single mother of seven-year-old twin daughters and physician assistant at a drop-in center for the homeless. Her elderly parents have both recently moved in with her and her daughters after her father had a severe heart attack and experienced complications related to bypass surgery. Because he had been the primary caregiver for Leandra’s mother, who has dementia, Leandra is now providing round-the-clock care for two dependent elders in addition to caring for her daughters and holding down a stressful job. Leandra, stressed and exhausted, has started in counseling, and comments “I’m exhausted and frustrated and overwhelmed but I just keep going. I don’t have any choice. I just have to keep going. I have to take care of my family”Which response would be most likely to elicit meaning? It sounds like taking care of your family is important to you. It sounds like you have a lot going on. Would you take care of others until you drop? Could you explain that – you not having a choice?
