A 49-year-old male with history of type II diabetes, hypertension, and chronic back and nerve pain is being seen in a pain clinic for a follow-up on his pain management plan. The NP introduces herself and the client proceeds to say, “I’m glad I have such a young, beautiful provider today.” The NP says thank you and asks the client how his pain has been lately. She goes over which medications he has been taking and makes sure that he has been compliant with his treatment plan. While completing the client’s physical examination, the client asks if she is married and if she has any kids. The NP says that she is engaged and does not have any children. The NP then proceeds to go over which medications the client may need a refill on and if there will be any changes to his treatment plan. When done, the client states, “your fiancé is a lucky guy.” The NP says thanks, completes the visit, and lets the client know to call the office if he has any changes in his pain
