One thing that can be improved upon in the clinical setting or in professional practice in nursing would be to bring awareness to treating the patients like humans and create more of a holisitic approach to nursing. Far too often I see clients getting yelled at, treated like science experiments, and dismissed emotionally. It takes no effort to make the client feel a little safer and a little bit more taken care of. We are nurses, and to bring awareness and recognize these problems across departments and throughout the organization will enhance our culture and patient care (Yoder-Wise, 2019). A few solutions include reviewing therapeutic communication key points as a seminar, practicing on each other, reviewing what to say and not say (like no “shoulding” on a patient), and overall keeping the focus on our goals of creating a safer and more effective environment for client care. As nurses, we have rights, and exercising the right to evaluate our hospital internally and bring provide feedback, monitor performance, and intervene when necessary are our responsibility
