Mr. Jones pain is causing him to not want to move since his surgery to his right leg. After having surgery restrictions from the surgeon as to how much weight if any at all is given. The only information we have been given is that he is restricted in his range of motion. Until I have received orders for weight bearing, I would assume my patient is non-weight bearing. Non weight bearing does not mean the patient cannot move. In fact, it is important for a patient to maintain some movement throughout the day to help prevent blood clots. I would speak to the provider about pain medication to assist patient with activities. The patient may require assistance with his ADL’s considering his mobility is limited at this time. The patient will most likely not want to perform any of his ADL’s while having 9/10 pain so administering prescribed pain medications 30 minutes prior to activities may be able to alleviate some pain. Assistance to and from the bathroom or bedside commode will be required. A raised toilet seat may also be needed. Educating the patient on using his call button when he needs to transfer is important. The patient
