Discuss an example of community benefit offered by a healthcare organization – it can be a local organization or an organization located in another region or state. Study the organization’s Website and provide three examples of community benefit that it provides. Because many instances of community benefit are not easily quantifiable, explain how you might best measure the positive impact of the benefit. For example, suppose a local hospital offered free blood pressure checks to Medicare-aged seniors once per month. The organization could measure its positive impact on the community by counting the number of seniors screened who had high blood pressure divided by the total number of seniors screened and providing a percentage of patients who are newly diagnosed with high blood pressure and can be referred for further follow up. This can then be extrapolated into reduced future costs associated with untreated high blood pressure and a healthier population (thus benefiting the community).
