Locate the decibel meter and press the On/ Off button to turn it on. 2. Make sure the level is set at 32 – 80. If it is not, press the Level button until it appears. 3. Check to make sure that next to the decibel reading it shows dBA. If it says BC, press the A/C button until you have the correct setting. 4. Finally, make sure that it says the word FAST above the reading, if it says SLOW, press the FAST/SLOW button until you see the correct setting. 5. On your worksheet, you will see a list of 14 items and places. Use the decibel meter to record the sound levels of each of these 14 items and places and then record the reading on the worksheet. 6. You don’t have to press any buttons to take a reading: simply hold the decibel meter close to the source of the noise. 7. When you and your partner have finished the recordings, answer the remaining questions on your worksheet.
