From the readings that have been posted on Brightspace, I have learnt that Nursing has changed over time and the history of Nursing is categorized into four periods, Intuitive period (pre 1700s), Apprenticeship period, Educative period (Nightingale Era) and Contemporary period. From this four periods, the history of Nursing has seen to undergo drastic changes. When Nursing started coming into phase during the intuitive period, it was not a known profession then and we could only see women who learnt by experience and observation in this profession. It was also a secular profession, meaning most people who practiced Nursing were nuns and other members of the religious order. In this same period the churches declared they no longer “owned” the hospitals. Hospitals were staffed with wayward women. In the apprenticeship period, Florence Nightingale brought rise to first formal nursing school. This period brought rise to students being taught both theory and clinical education and also graduating from school. After Nightingale’s school was established more training schools for nurses began to develop throughout the US and the world in the educative period.
