The physiotherapist is referred an 80-year-old retired male with a 2-year history of Parkinson’s disease. He lives at home with his wife and enjoy gardening and socialising at the local Casio. He reports increased frequency of falling over the past 6 months. Specifically he admits to stumbling at least 2-3 times per week and falls to the ground 2-3 times per month. He is also experiencing frequent freezing of gait especially when trying to turn. He also reports some cognitive issues with short term memory and has history of high blood pressure and right knee osteoarthritis. He is now on a strict regiment of Baclofen and Sinemet and notes that both the freezing of gait and falls are better when.he is well medicated. On further questioning the client reports the the stumbling and falling most often occurs when trying to turn, when walking on uneven surfaces (carpets, grass), or when using his cane in the house instead of his walker.
