The Sullivan’s are a family of four who reside in rural Florida. They are interracial, “middle-class”, and well-respected in the community. Characteristics of the individual family members are as follows: Jack (husband and father): Caucasian; owns the local hardware store; smokes; is moderately obese, with heavy red meat and fat intake; enjoys a “few” cocktails in the evening; participates on City Council; does not take regular preventive care visits or adhere to medical instructions; is eventually diagnosed with COPD, cardiomegaly Kathleen (stay-at-home mother/wife): Hispanic; military veteran; works at Charity Thrift Shop on an as-needed basis; has a history of low back injury; has an open prescription from the local physician for oxycodone that she uses liberally; THC/alcohol use Maureen (16-year-old daughter): fights regularly with her mother; becomes pregnant and delivers a baby (Ava) Ava (Maureen’s daughter) Ryan (9-year-old son) Ava, a 2-month-old infant presents to your office for a well-baby exam. PMH: Ava was delivered at 38 weeks via SVD to a G1P1 16 yo female with a normal prenatal course. Normal newborn course, passed hearing and CHD testing in nursery, received HepB #1 in nsy.
