A public health nurse identified drunk driving as an issue in a college town as evidence by the number of bars, DUIs, and automobile accidents. From her observations in the community she concluded that college students may not realize they had too much drink when they left the bar. She found grant money available to purchase breathalyzer machines and presented the information to the city council. They formed a committee which was able to get the grant money, purchase the equipment for the local bars, and train bar owners/workers on their use. College students thought it was “fun” to “play” with the breathalyzer at the bar, but evaluation proved that it did decrease the amount of people who drove when they left. This is a good example of public health nursing making an impact through community assessment (True/False).
