Case 2 CC: MK is a 41 yoF presenting for evaluation of recurrent diarrhea. HPI: MK states that 1-2 days per week she will have around 5 BMs with a loose consistency/appearance. MK reports that this has been ongoing for the past 6 months. She states that her on her “good days” she has a normal (not loose) BM once every morning, and this was her baseline prior to the past 6 months for as long as she can remember. MK denies weight loss, dark/tarry stools, FH of colon cancer, personal history of IBD or iron-deficiency anemia. Labs: All of MK’s labs are wnl. PMH: Epilepsy, tobacco abuse, anxiety, obesity (BMI 41) ALL: penicillin, aspirin, watermelon Medications: • Levetiracetam 500mg PO BID • Diazepam 5mg PO QHS prn anxiety 6. MK is very well-read on pharmacology, and states that she knows bupropion is the active ingredient in both Contrave for weight loss and Zyban for smoking cessation. She is wondering whether she could take one of these products to help with BOTH weight loss and smoking cessation. 7.
