MC presents to the emergency department by private vehicle today with reports of severe chest pain and worsening cough. It has been 2 months since MC’s last visit to the emergency department. There is a new resident working and it is her first time seeing her. She reports hemoptysis x3 weeks, chest pain that is 9/10 and sharp, and difficulty breathing. She informs the provider that “every time I come here, they never give me any answers and lets me go back home.” MC states that she still smokes cigarettes, but she has decreased her amount per day. She states that she has been wearing her oxygen and taking her medications as they have been prescribed. She also informs the provider that her daughter has quit her job and comes to her apartment every day to help take care of her. MC’s states that she would like to speak with someone about advanced directives at this time. MC’s daughter does not want her mother to speak with anyone at this time concerning advance directives.
