For this assignment, you are going to research and discuss the implications for a chosen disorder of pregnancy or post-partum. This is a 2 part assignment. 

Part 1

For part one, you will submit, via dropbox, a 3-4 page research paper on a disorder of pregnancy or post-partum. You must pick a disorder from the provided list. Following APA guidelines, your paper must discuss the pathophysiology of the disorder, the risk factors associated for the development of the disorder, side effects of the disorder on the mother, baby or both if applicable, treatment, and the outcomes to the mother/baby, both if treated and untreated. Your information will come from current evidence (within the last 5 year is ideal) – such as your textbook, clinical practice guidelines, scholarly journals, and professional association websites (ie: Canadian Pediatric Society, Society of Obstetricians of Gynecologists of Canada, etc). You are to use no more than 1 website for this assignment. This paper must have a title page and reference page.

Part 2

For Part 2 of this assignment, you are to design a visual “handout” or “patient reference” regarding your chosen disorder. This is your chance to be creative. You may design a single page poster, webpage, pamphlet, etc. Included on this “handout” is information that you want your patient to know if they were told that they or their baby had developed this disorder. Remember to use simple language (as non-medical as possible). The information you include in this “handout” should be the same information you’ve learned and described in your research paper; information on your “handout” should be appropriately referenced. This is also to be submitted via Dropbox for grading. You can include the “handout” as part of your paper. If you choose to design a webpage, please ensure that you include the website address so that I can visit the website to review it.

 

This assignment is due at the beginning of class during Week 4. No paper copies are to be handed in. Late assignment penalties apply, in accordance with the College policy.

You will conduct a literature review of the disorder including what the pathophysiology of the disorder is, the risk factors for the development of the disorder, treatment and potential long-term effects of the disorder
Provide a single page “patient handout”
Can be a web page, poster, brochure, etc.
Must be properly referenced (references used for the patient handout are to be included in the reference page for part 1)

 

Make sure you use Canadian based research/information as much as possible
At least 5 current reference sources
Can be the textbook, Scholarly journal articles, current practice guidelines
Sites like NurseLabs and Blogs are not credible and should not be used
No more than 1 credible website is to be used.
APA formatting must be followed
