Depending upon the practice that you work for, there will be different methods of refilling prescriptions for patients. When I first started to practice, only the provider could call the pharmacy to call in new prescriptions or refills. That has changed dramatically, especially with e-prescribing and electronic medical records. It is obvious to see that medical errors can be made in a variety of ways. When I first started to prescribe medications, the time I spent on the phone with the pharmacist was great. However, fewer mistakes were made. As you know medical errors are far too common and often result in negative patient outcomes. This sets up potential liabilities for office staff, providers, and the practice.
