Consider how you could save time using a computer charting system rather than a manual system with symbols. What would be the disadvantages of using a computer charting system? What would be the advantages to the office and to the patient?
Your practice converted to a new electronic dental record system about 6 months ago. You are struggling with delays in dental insurance claims payments and denials, as well as complaints from patients that their statements contain misspellings and other data errors. This appears to be because information entered into the system in the treatment rooms is not being entered accurately. In talking with the doctor, his response is, “at least everyone is entering something” and feels the staff is too stressed from the conversion to ask them to do a better job at this time. How might you address and resolve the issues without creating additional stress?
Explain why it is so important to consider the doctor’s body clock when scheduling appointments. What could be the consequences of scheduling a complex procedure during a time when the doctor would not be at peak performance?
Consider an office with which you have been associated with and identify problems that have occurred in scheduling that resulted in decreased productivity. How could some of these problems be resolved?
There appears to be a trend in the office that is causing the clinical assistants to run out of supplies in the treatment rooms during the middle of the days’ procedures. The issue was bought up in a staff meeting. What might the causes be and how could the situation be resolved?
