 JC is a 52 year old hispanic male who presented to the ER last evening for c/o pain in a wound on his right great toe. He claimed he dropped a large rock on his toe several weeks ago and sustained an open wound. The pain has been increasing over the last several days and he has been unable to get the pain under control. The client has been admitted to your medical-surgical unit for antibiotic treatment and surgical debridement of the diabetic ulcer on the right great toe.Â
PMHX: Type II diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.
Final DX: diabetic foot ulcer requiring antibiotic treatment and surgical debridement.
The scenario will begin with the charge nurse giving students a report on the patient s/p surgical debridement last evening.
