The patient was positioned supine and an appropriate area of puncture was made over the lower portion of the chest. An appropriate area was cleansed and anesthetized with 3 ccs of 1% Xylocaine. An 18-gauge spring-loaded needle was inserted approximately 4 cm to the right of the midline into a 6 x 5 cm mass in the right base medially. Three cores of tissue were removed using the co-axial spring-loaded 18-gauge biopsy needle. No bleeding could be seen in the chest after the study and there was no pneumothorax identified. The patient received 1 mg of Versed intravenously for sedation.
