The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is one of the historical laws that was signed by President Lyndon Johnson that prohibits anyone from discrimination in public places such as hospitals and made employment discrimination legal. In the scholarly article by Ward (2021) states that “The most significant health-care reform to come directly out of the civil rights movement was the development of community health centers, which today provide health care to more than 29 million Americans” (Ward, 2021, para. 3). Another historical law that has improved access to health care is The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) that was signed by President Barack Obama in March 2010. The focus of the reform is to expand healthcare insurance coverage to all citizens of the United States and promotes healthcare to be easy to understand for those with language barriers.
