This article is a systematic review that aimed to examine the relationship between nurse staffing levels and the quality of care in nursing homes. The authors searched several databases and identified 27 relevant studies published between 1990 and 2007. They used a meta-analysis approach to synthesize the findings of the included studies. The results of the systematic review showed a consistent and significant relationship between nurse staffing levels and quality of care in nursing homes. Specifically, higher nurse staffing levels were associated with better outcomes for residents, including lower rates of pressure ulcers, falls, and hospitalizations, as well as better overall quality of care. This article provides valuable evidence-based support for addressing nursing shortages in nursing homes, highlighting the importance of adequate staffing levels for improving the quality of care provided to residents.
