Sierra is a 16 year-old African American female who has a body mass index (BMI) of 18.8 kg/m2. She is currently a sophomore in high school and a member of the dance squad. Sierra has competed on a competitive dance team since she was 5 years old. Since the eighth grade, Sierra has engaged in dieting behaviors to help control her weight. She reports that she is being healthy and that to have a future in dance she needs to be able to demonstrate that she is disciplined and committed to her sport. Her parents have brought Sierra in to the treatment clinic due to their concern that Sierra is doing more than just “dieting” and that there are some issues that need to be addressed by professionals. Sierra is very reluctant to be at the treatment clinic and has expressed her anger at her mothers and has been reluctant to engage in conversation with the professionals. The professionals gain a good deal of information from Sierra’s mothers, who are able to tell the mental health team what they have observed. Sierra’s mother, Trish, tells the team that Sierra eats pretty normal sized meals – she does not avoid eating
