I will be looking at the viewpoints of nurses and residents of the nursing home regarding the transfer process between the hospital and the nursing home. Transferring nursing home residents to various hospitals is something that happens all over the country. Transfers are typically based on medical needs, but in many instances, transfers may be potentially avoidable. They would rather increase cost or even expose residents to hospital-acquired infections. Hospital transfers that lead to ER visits, observation stays, and hospital admissions are more common among residents of nursing homes; these transfers may also have a negative impact on the residents’ outcomes (Vogelsmeier et al, 2022). The morbidity and mortality rates of nursing home residents are greatly increased by hospital transfers, which are both expensive and unsafe. For residents in nursing homes, hospital transfers happen often despite the associated expenses and hazards. I would like to know how nurses saw the hospital transfer procedure, what experiences nursing home residents had during transfers, and how they participated in decision-making during those transfers.
