Research question: Does the workplace violence curriculum taught at a midwestern hospital contain learner-centered and engaging objectives and use an evidence-based framework that supports adult learning to be considered an effective curriculum?

I developed my research question by reviewing the recommendations in the text to focus my research question on containing the specific concepts related to my study (Gray & Grove, 2021). Gray and Grove (2021) describe the research question as having three parts: the questioning, what is wanting to be known, and population, variables, or concepts. I followed Gray and Grove’s (2021) explanations on how to write a research question to form my query. I explored an effective curriculum, which has attributes of being learner-centered, engaging, evidence-based, and using a framework that I included in my question. The theory that I feel will support my question is Malcolm Knowles’s adult learning theory, which supports adult education. Knowles’s adult learner theory concepts are also reflected in these attributes. Knowles’s adult learner theory explains that adult learners want problem-centered education related to the actual situation in which they would apply the learning (Schultz, 2012). The attributes of effective curriculum development support this, as the education needs to be learner-centered to be effective. Knowles’s adult learning theory also explains that adult learners need to know why the information is essential to engage (Schultz, 2012). This supports that an effective curriculum must be engaging to support effective learning. Another feature I found in my concept analysis of effective curriculum is that evidence-based teaching methods and frameworks should support it. Knowles’s adult learning theory is a theory that is evidence-based to support adult learning; this helps answer my research question, exploring if the curriculum has an evidence-based framework to remain effective (Schultz, 2012).  My research question contains the concepts supported by the theory I want to explore to determine an effective curriculum.
