SNRI: A patient diagnosed with depression stopped taking his prescribed MAOI last week because he stated that he didn’t like the way the medications made him feel. The provider prescribes an SNRI to replace his MAOI medications. The nurse questions this order because: A. The patient needs to remain on an MAOI but another medication can be added to help decrease unwanted side effects. B. SNRI’s are indicated for anxiety and not depression. C. Administration of SNRI’s are contraindicated in patients taking or stopping MAOIs for two weeks of the last administration of an MAOI. D. SNRI’s is the first line treatment for depression.
