Jessica Smith, a 24-year-old (DOB 2/14/1997), presents to urgent care with a 3-week history of cough and congestion. She states it started as a “normal cold” and will not go away, adding that it seemed to get better about a week ago but “returned with a vengeance!” She complains of a productive cough of green mucous and green nasal discharge, with a low-grade temperature for the past two days. The patient reports an intermittent frontal headache with this cold. Ms. Smith is otherwise healthy, with a documented allergy to cephalexin (Keflex), but has taken Penicillin V Potassium in the past without experiencing allergic events.
