Tom is a 65-year-old retired teacher who now likes to play golf every day. He recently had a right total knee arthroplasty and has been coming to outpatient physical therapy for several weeks now. His POC consists of gait and transfer training, balance training, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, modalities as needed and instruction in a HEP. He has slowly been increasing his time on the greens with slowly improving strength and range of motion. Now he comes into the clinic stating that you pushed him too hard during his last session and he has increased swelling, pain, and redness around his knee and going into his calf. He just wants ice and E-stim on it and be done with therapy.
