A 29-year old male has an unremarkable medical history except for a history of stress-induced asthma. He is quite nervous about his impending dental hygiene appointment and dental exam. As he sits in the reception area, he begins to experience extreme difficulty breathing. The receptionist summons the dentist who examines the patient. The patient is sitting upright in the chair with his arms thrown forward. There is a very obvious wheezing sound noted on expiration. He is sweating profusely and continually moves his back and abdominal muscles in an effort to breath. 1. What type of emergency situation is occurring? 2. Describe the appropriate emergency procedure. 3. Are any alterations necessary in your treatment plan?
