Joanna Hernandez is a 75 year old female who presents to your office with a chiefcomplaint of swollen and aching gums. A thorough examination reveals an infectionaround one of her molars which will require antibiotic treatment. Other than the infection,detailed medication/health history reveals a healthy 110 pound female whose onlymedications are hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg every morning for her high blood pressureand acetaminophen for aches and pains. Mrs. Hernandez is quite proud of the fact thatshe still has her own teeth. However, she is not happy that she has this infection. Ms.Hernandez also requests something for the pain. You then refer to Ms. Hernandez’s dentalrecord and see that she is allergic to penicillin and to ibuprofen.
