A common joint injury would be a sprained ankle. Its symptoms are pain, swelling, and difficulty walking. An example of improving the range of motion would be Joint mobilization. It helps decrease pain, improve range of motion, and increase function. A therapist performs this technique by stabilizing one segment of a joint and applying manual pressure or traction to the nearby section. This technique helps restore normal joint movement and reduce pain and stiffness. Another example would be Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (R.I.C.E.) It is mostly recommended for the initial stages of a sprained ankle. Rest allows the injured ligaments to heal, ice helps reduce swelling and inflammation, compression provides support, and elevation helps minimize swelling.
