You are working with a new client that has complex health issues requiring intensive on-going health care and treatment. Mila is forty-six years old, she has down syndrome.
Mila has also been assessed as having an intellectual disability and due to her age has complex health care concerns as part of normal ageing associated with Downs Syndrome.
Mila has Type 2 Diabetes, and is very overweight, she wears hearing aides and glasses. During a regular check-up it was identified that Mila has a cataract in her left eye.
Mila also has high blood pressure with congenital heart disease. Mila’s physician is monitoring her as well for Alzheimer’s.
Mila has always from a small infant had problems with thyroid dysfunction. Mila was diagnosed as having has Celiac Disease a few years ago. Mila also has chronic skin rashes, dry skin and dermatitis.
At times Mila has experienced incontinence due to a combination of factors associated with body mass and natural ageing associated with Down Syndrome and the possibility of Alzheimer’s.
1. List the body systems and organs associated with Mila’s diagnoses and health conditions.
2. Discuss the steps you will take as a care worker to assist the Mila to maintain her overall health and wellness.
