Case study 1- Legal obligations John is a new support worker who is three hours into his afternoon shift. John assists Velma, one of the permanent residents in the supported accommodation. Velma complains bitterly to John that her room has not been cleaned for several weeks, and that the cleaning staff seem to keep missing her room. Velma continues to complain to John that she has told various other support workers that she wants to see the nurse on duty as she has had a severe headache and joint pain for days. Velma states to John “I have not seen the nurse yet and other staff just keep giving me Panadol and telling me to rest”. John shrugs his shoulders and tells Velma that he will see what he can do. John then goes on his tea break and mentions to one of the other experienced support workers Jo-Anne Velma’s complaints. But she just laughs off Velma’s complaints and tells John “Just ignore her she always complains to the new staff”. Identify the relevant legislation (according to the steam of Individualised Support you are studying – Disability or Aged Care), that governs John’s responsibilities and obligations?
