My small-scale change project is to educate nurses and staff on the importance of proper hand-hygiene in an effort to decrease HAIs. The project consists of observing and assessing hand-hygiene in the hospital setting and providing a score card to the person. If passed, they may continue on and if they fail due to not washing long enough, having acrylic nails, improper scrubbing, or for any other reason, the staff member is given a failing score card. The Clinical Educator is then notified and a module for hand washing is assigned to the staff member for completion. In order to implement the change strategy, staff was briefed by the Clinical Educator and myself about the evaluations to come. Everyone was made aware of how the failing evaluations would lead to added education material to re-educate on the importance of hand washing. During random assessments, the staff was provided with a carbon copy of their passing or failing hand washing score card. The failing employees were assigned an education module on hand washing and those employees were reassessed. Staff was made aware by my Unit Supervisor that the task was not only for educational purposes for myself but it would be
