Some people are dissatisfied with the U.S. healthcare system because of healthcare coverage/insurance and the cost of this. According to Novak, “the health care system today consists of a mixture of publicly and privately funded programs. These programs do not form a comprehensive system of care.” In which leads to many people being without healthcare coverage. The textbook talks about three different models: the medical model which focuses on diagnosis and cure of illnesses; the social model which refers to a person’s ability to function in the social world; and the health promotion model which refers to the concept of disease prevention and reduced disability. All these models are beneficial in their own way, but I think the best model that serves the aging society should be the health promotion model. By trying to prevent disease and reduce disability we can have a healthier older society. this also goes for the younger society as well. I do believe that holistic healing methods are beneficial as well as traditional medical practices. I would like to see more holistic healing incorporated into their practice; it would get more people to go to the doctor when it is really needed.
