My topic of interest is fall education. My purpose for exploring this topic is because about 25% of hospital falls cause injuries such as fractures, fear of falling, and soft tissue injuries. Worldwide, hospital falls range from 3 to 11 falls per 1000 bed days (Heng et al., 2020). I would love for patient falls to no longer be a source of anxiety for patients and healthcare workers. Patient falls can go as far as leading to death, especially if it involves head injuries. I would also like to see an even greater reduction of falls worldwide. These outcomes can be measured through using national health surveys, hospital records, and surveillance systems. In the United States, measuring fall reductions can be done by analyzing data from the World Health Organization, and by examining surveys in addition to current research studies. Aiken measured their outcomes by collecting data from a subset of 188 out of the 243 hospitals that made detailed patient outcomes available and included 275 519 surgical patients (Aiken et al., 2017).
