I have been tasked with building a coalition to address better nutritional habits in the community. We can ask different healthcare professionals from different areas to join this coalition. We could ask a dietitian, a family doctor or nurse practitioner, a weight-loss specialist(MD), and health educators. These healthcare professionals either have expertise on dietary needs or are practicing within the community already with established trust. The health educators are best at taking these messages and bringing them to the community in an understandable and informative way. We can use two strategies to engage these healthcare professionals for collaboration with the new coalition. One, we can approach organizations that are already working on community nutrition. An established organization already has some best practices established on what works best when approaching different communities. Second, the coalition can ask for participation and involvement from local practitioners that have established reputations in the community. These individual healthcare workers bring knowledge of the community and a desire improve it. We can use that desire to urge them joining our coalition (Prevention Institute, 2002).
