Stephanie: The emergency room physician—an employee of HH—began to set Stephanie’s arm and leg for a cast after using an X-Ray to determine the locations and types of fractures. Unfortunately, the physician severed Stephanie’s femoral artery, causing a massive amount of blood loss in a short period. Luckily, the physician was able to stop the bleeding and provide a blood transfusion, but Stephanie became unconscious. After Stephanie’s vital signs stabilized but she still didn’t wake up, the ER physician ordered an MRI for her brain. The MRI showed a brain injury from the accident, which was not symptomatic until the loss of blood when the physician severed Stephanie’s femoral artery. It’s possible that the brain injury would have healed on its own without medical intervention and that Stephanie never would have become unconscious, but following the discovery neurologists ordered that Stephanie be placed in a medically-induced coma to allow time for the injury to heal. Stephanie’s Son, Jake: By the time he reaches the hospital, Jake has regained consciousness and seems to be talking and behaving normally.
