He complains of being under the weather, unable to complete his usual activities. Further questioning reveals a flare-up of a chronic epigastric burning that doubling his usual dose of Tums does not help. He smokes about two packs of cigarettes/day, drinks up to three martinis at lunch, takes NSAIDS for back pain, and takes one aspirin/day for cardiac prophylaxis. He was warned of an ulcer years ago, but never had it evaluated or treated.
