It was founded that 97.9 out of every 100,000 African Americans have died from COVID-19. Although African Americans only make up 30% of the population, African Americans comprised of 71% of COVID-19 deaths. The overrepresentation of African Americans among COVID-19 cases and the number of deaths has worsen the social inequalities that are tied to race, class and access to the health care system (Reyes, 2020). When COVID-19 was at its prime affect rate, more testing was done in minority communities. Although the law required health insurance companies to cover testing for doctor’s visits and emergency services, many African Americans were forced to pay out of pocket if the testing results did not equal to be COVID-19. Although the health care system’s purpose is to restore, promote, and maintain health, many African Americans witnessed a system that failed to protect them at one of the most critical times in United State’s history. African Americans have experienced health care inequality that goes back for generations, such as the Tuskegee experiment. Furthermore, African Americans fear and have experienced mistreatment in health care facilities, which results in them not visiting hospitals and self-isolating. African Americans are often under diagnosed, misdiagnosed, or completely ignored
