thank you for the description of data in your role as clinical leader in an environment caring for those with mental health needs.  We will discuss the continuum of data into wisdom in a few weeks, but I think it is important to share some information regarding the use of data to improve outcomes this week. Cato et al. (2020) discusses how data can be transformed into usable wisdom in complex clinical environments.  For example, clinical decision support tools use artificial intelligence to alert end users of impending clinical changes which warrant immediate attention – such as the case of sepsis.  Cato et al. (2020) applies the continuum and describes machine learning and artificial intelligence mechanisms to use data (e.g., vital signs, lab values) from the electronic health record to generate knowledge regarding the risk of sepsis.  The disadvantage of this process may be a false alarm or fatigue alert experienced by the end user.  When alerts are received and the patient is not at risk for sepsis, the workflow is interrupted, and nurses become fatigued and immune to alerts according to Cato et al. (2020). This is one example of how data obtained from the electronic medical record can be used to predict outcomes and employ timely interventions.  Thank you for allowing me to extend this discussion.
