Synchronous GI Case #1 – BB Antioch A mother presents with her 18 month old son who has had “diarrhea” for the past 5 days. When asked about the diarrhea, the mother states that the infant has “6-8 loose bowel movements every day.” There has been no blood in the stools. He has had a mild fever (38 C) and also appears to have some abdominal discomfort. He has vomited several times in the first 3 days of the illness, but his has since subsided. The infant has 2 siblings; neither has any abnormal symptoms. PE: child is active and does not appear to be significantly dehydrated. HEENT: no significant findings. Abd: soft, no masses, no tenderness. Respond to the following questions based on the information provided above. Questions: What is the most likely cause of this infant’s diarrhea?
