SOLVED1987

EMS was summoned to house after patient found collapsed on the floor. NO CPR had been done when they arrived. EKG showed ventricular defibrillation. Shock was unsuccessful as well as intubation. CPR was performed until arrival at the ED. There was fair to good ventilation of the lungs, no IV could be successfully placed. Color was dusky, he had rhonchi in both lungs. IVs were started in the ED and he was intubated. He was given 2 mg of epinephrine, 2 mg of atropine and attempted external pacing, however it was unsuccessful. Of note, time down with no CPR before ambulance arrived was approximately 6-8 minutes. Family indicates he fell earlier and they noticed he has some slurred speech. Has a history of intermittent atrial fibrillation. Death pronounced at 1:34 AM. Probably stroke. Assign code(s) for facility services. Assign ICD-10-CM code(s) for facility services.
