SOLVED1744
Our scenario is as follows: You are the preceptor for Anna, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student. Anna is completing a clinical rotation on the inpatient mental health unit of a large community medical center and has been a diligent and perceptive student. Over the past two weeks of her rotation, you’ve noticed that one patient, Dominic, has sought Anna out repeatedly to “talk” with her about his problems. All of Anna’s interactions with Dominic have appeared to be professional and appropriate. Today, following the group session, Anna excuses herself to take her lunch break. A few minutes later, passing Dominic’s room, you notice that the door is shut but you hear a female voice coming from inside. You knock and open the door, and see Anna jump up off of Dominic’s lap, and quickly adjust her clothing. Discuss the legal and ethical implications of this situation, and how you as the preceptor will handle it.
