Comment on the following post from an ethical and legal perspective, and raise one thought-provoking : “A person who attempted suicide was found by a family member, barely alive but with a suicide note. The family members went against the patient’s wishes and pushed for life-saving measures. In this moment, there was an ethical decision that healthcare providers had to make: do we let the patient die as they wished, or try and save their life as the family member decided? The patient was put on life support, and after a couple of days, the family realized they weren’t coming back and chose to take off life support; several hours later, the patient passed. In this situation, the family member made the decision for the patient; in another situation, the patient’s family member may not be there, so does the physician respect the patient’s wishes from a suicide note and do nothing, or do they attempt life-saving measures?”
