You are a nurse working at RCTC Community Hospital in the ER. Your patient is a 53 yo farmer who has developed severe back pain while providing feed for his stock. He was driven here by his wife in the back of a van. He has pain radiating down the back of his left leg. He cannot stand upright and is more comfortable standing. He has a history of previous back pain and has been found to have lumbar spondylosis confirmed by X-Ray. He has a previous history of a fractured tibia/fibula from a trauma which gives him pain with prolonged standing. He also has psoriasis which is currently not well controlled. He is a smoker. Medications include betamethasone ointment1% BD, Oxycodone 5-10mg every 6 hrs as need for pain. He last took the oxycodone about 2 hrs ago. On exam he is distressed with pain 8/10. BP 135/95, P84 regular, RR 22, O2 sats 94% on room air. He is unable to lie down. You are calling the health care provider to update him on his arrival.
