create an ecomap with the following scenario, Jasmine, an African American 9-year-old, is the middle child in her family. She has a 5-year-old brother, Jordan, and a 13-year-old sister, Kiandra. For as long as Jasmine can remember, her mother has worked all the time. These days, the mother works at a hospital, and she used to work at a nursing home. Jasmine has heard her mother say that she likes taking care of people when they are sick. While Jasmine can remember fun times with her dad when she was little, he often hit their mother when he had lived with them in the past year. Jasmine knows her dad is in prison now, and her mom says she is glad he is gone. Her mother always tells Kiandra and Jasmine that they should never touch drugs, or they will become just like their dad, who used to smoke marijuana regularly and eventually began using heroin. Jasmine misses her father and hopes he will return soon. Jasmine can’t really remember a time when her family wasn’t poor. She has lived in the city most of her life and lost track of how many different places she has stayed. Even though she likes school, she was never able to stay in one school too long. Around the same time that Jasmine’s dad went to prison, they moved in with Jasmine’s grandma in the country. During that time, Jasmine and Kiandra stayed home and took care of Jordan while their mom and grandma drove to their jobs at a hospital in the city. When Jasmine’s grandma died unexpectedly, her mom didn’t have enough money to pay all the bills, and they had to move out of the house. The family gathered their clothes and began sleeping in grandma’s car, frequently parking at a deserted campground near their grandma’s old home. Jasmine’s grandma used to call her an old soul. She loves to read and pretends to be Jordan’s teacher. Jasmine has always made sure Jordan is taken care of when her mom is working. She won’t eat until Jordan has had enough, and she is proud that she taught Jordan how to brush his teeth and tie his shoes. She likes it when her mom says she is the only one who never causes her to worry.
