James is a 2-year-old boy whose mother brings him to the office reporting that he has had a very high fever which will not come down even with the use of Tylenol and Motrin. The fever started yesterday and has been steadily increasing. The mother reports that the highest it has reached was 104 F. Mom states that she last gave James Tylenol about an hour before bringing him in to your clinic. She says he hasn’t been playful like normal, and he won’t eat or drink anything. She reports that James has just been ‘laying around’, and she thinks he is weak. She is concerned that he is going to have a seizure or ‘cook his brain’ with the temperature that high.
