I chose to interview my grandmother and my mother (80 and 54). When my grandma was younger they did have birth control pills available however for the most part condoms were utilized or abstinence was encouraged because of religious beliefs. She got married at 18 which is very young and also very common during this time. She had two children the first passed away a few days after she was born and the second was my mom. She said that she was educated on how to not get pregnant however the Catholic belief was that you did not prevent pregnancy. Once a man and woman were wed the Catholic church believed that they should bear as many children as God will give them and preventing pregnancy was a sin. However, after she gave birth to my mom she had to have a full hysterectomy because of health issues. Which then eliminated her need for birth control at all. My mom on the other hand pretty much had all versions of birth control at her disposal. Most commonly used was the birth control pill and this is what she used for quite sometime and also in between pregnancies. I am one
