Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally. The way alert and oriented patients go about their day is entirely different and challenging for schizophrenic patients. Some of the characteristics they have are hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, anhedonia, avolition, and flat affect. Their minds are wired, and each day is a constant battle. I care for schizophrenic patients, and on certain occasions, they approach me about fearful thoughts that keep reoccurring. Usually, when they have suicidal ideations or any harmful ideas, as nurses, we send them out for psych evaluations. Some treatments vary, for example, medications. Some medications can control or stabilize. Most schizophrenic patients refuse medications due to the side effects, and they do not understand the possible advantages. If I were a schizophrenic patient, I would tell my nurse about my fear of social isolation and delusions. I would explain how scared I will be to listen to the voices in my head and what may or could happen. I would also express my loneliness.
