Scenario Mary, age 15, is a G-2, T-2, P-0, A-0, L-2, Rh 0 negative mother who delivered a 5-pound 10- ounce female at 41 weeks gestation. The infant’s blood work has not been completed yet. The father of the infant is not involved in the family. Mary had a history of smoking ½ to 1 pack of cigarettes per day throughout her pregnancy. She has an episiotomy with a third degree laceration. She delivered on 2/18 at 0230. It is now 0700 on 2/18. Mary expressed interest in breastfeeding and has attempted to do so but at this point the baby has not latched on well. Mary is complaining of a sore nipple and redness is evident on the right breast. Mary lost a large amount of blood with delivery of the placenta and her HGB is now 8.2. Her prenatal history reveals a history of several sex partners and Chlamydia, which was treated during pregnancy. Her rubella titer is negative.
