Thank you for your very well-written discussion post this week. The fact that vaccines have been around in some form since the 1700s is pretty amazing! It is pretty crazy to think of the concept back then in their eyes – exposing a patient to the disease in order to prevent the disease. I appreciated the point you made in noting that nurses need to build rapport with patients, as this helps build trust. Trust is helpful when explaining important information about vaccines and addressing hesitancy with this. When I was in nursing school to get my Associates of Nursing, I was able to attend a trip down to Costa Rica with a few professors and a group of fellow students. The purpose of the trip was so we could set up free clinics in some very impoverished areas. We were able to see the members of the community there for acute concerns, some limited chronic conditions, and some preventative care measures. One of these things were vaccines. We had limited supply and only limited vaccines, but it was still a great thing to be able to offer some of these community members. Trust and rapport were hurdles we had
